Title: Full Series (Jan 13-Feb 17)

The MORE Sign, Say, & Play™ Class is a second 6-week program designed to provide parents and babies who have enjoyed the original Sign, Say & Play™ curriculum with a chance to continue learning signs.

Please note parents and children are NOT required to attend the original SS&P™ Class before attending the MORE Sign, Say & Play™ Class. Although it is strongly recommended that they do so as the signs and circle book in the first curriculum are more appropriate “starter” signs than those in the second.

What to expect:

The MORE Sign, Say & Play™ curriculum will look very familiar to you. it is patterned  closely after the original curriculum, as this will provide the kind of predictability that children enjoy.

For example, we’ve kept the order of events the same—as well as the opening and closing songs—and BeeBo™ still plays a central role.

One important difference between the two curricula relates to the focus of  the importance of activities like pretend play and puzzles to your baby’s intellectual development. The MORE Sign, Say & Play™ curriculum, in contrast, provides information to help parents promote healthy emotional development in their children.

A second difference worth noting is in the nature of the Circle Time Book Collection. Rather than simply presenting the signs in isolation from each other, the books this time are organized around a simple rhyme that ties the signs and illustrations together into a more story-like form.

 DETAILS:

Each week will cover a new fun topic; feelings, outside, at the farm, safety, at the zoo and birthday

There is a parent education component to every class, with important concepts drawn from Drs. Acredolo and Goodwyn’s book Baby Minds, to help parents learn more about their child’s cognitive, literacy and language development!

Each session will consist of structured activity time, followed by free play and exploration time, where both babies and parents have a chance to interact and socialize.

Meet your Instructor: Natasha Leonard, ICI, PCD, BSc

Hello!

I'm Natasha and my passion for Sign Language goes all the way back to when I worked with young children in Ireland in an early intervention school. Here, I taught Sign Language as an augmentative communication skill to pre verbal children with a primary diagnosis of Autism. Teaching basic sign through song and other creative methods always sparked joy in my day among many other moments! Fast forward years later and a move to Canada I had my first daughter and I began infant sign with her from birth. Our first sign was the sign for milk which we vocalized with 'boobie' using sign was a game changer for our family and being able to meet her needs gave an element of calm to the chaos that family life has. It also benefitted so many more aspect of her development and helped in creating a very eloquent, appropriately expressive child.

From that point on I have used sign with my other children and we have been equally successful. Wanting to offer other caregivers the opportunity I've had with my children and past students I sought Canadian certification and gained it with the re-nouned Drs. Acredolo and Goodwyn's The Baby Signs® Program. They where the only educators program that had a commitment to children. To promote the health and well-being of all children and foster their optimal development during the critical first three years of life.
The Baby Signs® Program commitment to parents. To help parents recognize their child’s developmental potential and the importance of the first three years for laying solid foundations for an optimal future and it also shows a commitment to families.
To help make day-to-day family life less stressful and more satisfying and to help families build bonds of love and respect that can last a lifetime.

I love being in the family center and spending time with you and your littles and cannot wait to see you all soon.
